The town of Langdale with a snowy Mount Elphinstone in the background.

Monday, December 19, 2005

Sunset at Roberts Creek Beach. This one was a bit more subtle than most.

Friday, December 16, 2005

A stroll down to Secret Beach at sunset yielded this expansive view of Howe Sound.

The delicate brush of frost sculpts this mundane blackberry bramble into a beautiful object.

One more sunrise picture. This one is for Lorien...

Sunrise over Howe Sound. The warm reds and golds of the sky belie the coldness of the day.

Early morning light over the North shore mountains. Note Cypress Bowl in the distance.

A black and white treatment of snow on Mount Hollyburn.

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

A brilliant December sunrise in Gibsons. THe light of Howe sound is ever changing and never dull.

Monday, December 12, 2005

Snow at sunset lends the landscape a sensual look.

This overfed pirate was looking for handouts at the top of Hollyburn Mountain. It appears he was quite successful!!

Friday, December 09, 2005

A brilliant pink sunrise over Gibsons harbour. I suppose sailors should take warning from a sunrise like this, but they were heading out anyway.

Friday, December 02, 2005

Fresh snow on Mount Elphinstone framed by a dead tree. This image would work in black and white as well.

Thursday, December 01, 2005

Sunbeams lancing down through heavy clouds can be almost a religious experience.

Wednesday, November 30, 2005

Snow is quite rare on the Coast. Arbutus and snow aren't usually seen together.

Thursday, November 24, 2005

Here is Lorien engaged in her favourite activity, reading a second hand book . She has an uncanny instinct for finding the oldest used books around!!

Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Another picture from foggy Gibsons. I'd love to hop aboard a sailing ship and roam the seas as a pirate. Unfortunately my knot tying skills are horrible.

Monday, November 21, 2005

A suitably nautical theme. Hooks, boats, gulls and sea fog.

Fog always creates interesting images. This arbutus tree is no exception.

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

The delicate shades of alpenglow colour the Norht Shore Mountains as the Sun sets on another beautiful Vanocuver day.

Siwash Rock is one of the most distinctive features of the Stanley Park Seawall.

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

Sunset over the Lionsgate bridge with fresh snow on the North Shore Mountains. Vancouver is truly a unique place.

Friday, November 11, 2005

The subtle yet brilliant colors of late autumn captured in Laurel's garden.

Monday, November 07, 2005

The soft velvety water makes an almost abstract pattern against the wet river rocks.

A burst of sunlight and blue sky after days of rain.

Thursday, November 03, 2005

An autumn sunset at Davis Bay Sometimes it seems that we go for weeks without seeing the sun, but when it comes it is spectacular.

Monday, October 31, 2005

Rainbows bring hope in troubled times. That such beauty can exist and be so ephemeral fills me with wonder.

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

Another view of Joffre Glacier from this summer, this time given a vaguely Ansel Adams treatment.

The rich ochers and oranges of fallen leaves are a rare but welcome sight in the coastal rainforest.

I was going through some old photos from the summer and discovered this beautiful one of Joffre Lakes and the rapidly retreating glaciers there.

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

A very subtle sunrise this morning. The sky was a mixture of lavender and delicate salmon pink with a hink of mist. It was worth dragging my sick carcass out of bed!!!

Sunday, October 16, 2005

Yet another golden autumn picture. This one is from a walk through an alder grove in Stanley Park.

Friday, October 14, 2005

A walk in the woods on a rare sunny October day (Thursday) yielded this crisp scene.

Thursday, October 13, 2005

A field of alpine plants gets a delicate autumn paint job. THe reds, pinks and maroons contrast nicely with the deep green of the evergreens.

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

Sunset at Westham Island in Ladner. It doesn't have to be wilderness to be beautiful.

While our western Bigleaf maples aren't as colorful as their eastern counterparts they are equally spectacular when draped in mosses and ferns.

Thursday, October 06, 2005

Skies this blue remind me of certain Central American butterflies whose wings looked like precious stones.

Autumn in the mountains is a subtle thing, it is the hidden corners that have the greatest beauty.

If it weren't for the Coast Mountains this could have been a shough in Saskatchewan. I love the strange juxtapositions in Landscape we get here on the West Coast.

Tuesday, September 27, 2005

Another sunflower< this one was nodding over Coal Harbour.

Saturday, September 24, 2005

Early morning light in Gibsons. It was actually cold this morning, but the crystal light of early Autumn was worth it.

Friday, September 23, 2005

Another sunny morning in Gibsons. This view is phopographed by tourists every summer, but I still find it very interesting.

Wednesday, September 21, 2005

A rare rainbow over Howe Sound. Always a beautiful sight.

Sunday, September 18, 2005

The beauty of Elfin Lakes in the autumn. The colors are subtle yet brilliant.

Wednesday, September 14, 2005

The Black Tusk gets an overdone Ansel Adms treatment by yours truly.

Tuesday, September 13, 2005

It sure was hazy today. Still Gibsons looks nice from above.

Monday, September 12, 2005

Another brilliant sunset on the Coast. This one was accentuated by the smoke from the Burns Bog fire.
